Hope Going Into The US Nationals

Gutierrez Brothers Racing headed to the U.S. Nationals with some new parts, some changes, and a whole lot of hope. After getting home from Night Under Fire, the GBR team went straight to work trying to figure out the electrical issue that has been plaguing the team all year. They made some changes and headed to Indy hoping they had finally found the problem.

Qualifying rounds 1 and 2 were tough, as the dragster struggled to make it off the starting line both times. Saturday morning, JP made some changes to the tune-up and was just hoping for a solid A-to-B pass. He got exactly that in Q3! JP launched hard, hooked it up, and ran a 5.40 at 264 MPH. It wasn’t our best pass, but it was enough to get GBR into the show and qualified 11th.

In Round 1 of eliminations, JP lined up against Richie Crampton. JP was .011 off the tree and made a clean pass to a 5.350 at 266 MPH, but around the 1000-foot mark Richie was able to get around him with a 5.298 at 269 MPH.

Unfortunately, GBR’s U.S. Nationals came to an end in Round 1 but there were definitely some positives to take away from the weekend. JP made two clean passes, and the team is hopeful that the electrical issue that has been fighting us all year may finally be behind us.

Now it’s on to the Great Lakes Nationals at US 131 Motorsports Park next weekend! 🏁
